Borough President Markowitz will do his shtick on Thursday in Gaphattan to raise money for “Camp Brooklyn,” a program that sends hundreds of kids a year to the country to do scavenger hunts, take canoe lessons, and tell scary tales around bonfires.
“I’m quick to trumpet everything that Brooklyn has to offer, but every child deserves a chance to get out of the city and experience the beauty and transformative quality of nature,” said Markowitz.
Last summer, the camp sent more than 200 kids on programs like Homeward Bound and the Fresh Air Fund. This summer, Markowitz wants to double that number.
So on Nov. 15, the Beep will host a $200-a-seat charity auction and dinner at Mickey Mantle’s Restaurant. Attendees will get a chance to win 90 items, including autographed memorabilia, concert and theater tickets, a Vegas vacation, a Caribbean cruise.
