Come for the hot-dog-eating contest, stay for the music.
Fourth of July in Coney Island this year will be a lot more than just watching people shove massive amounts of hot dogs into their mouths!
Even though the Cyclones are playing the IronBirds at Aberdeen, MCU Park will still host an Independence Day celebration starting at 4:30 pm. The celebration will end with a traditional Fourth of July fireworks display beginning at 9 pm.
And although unconfirmed, it looks like the Cyclones are on the hunt for a new pitcher. As part of the festivities, people are invited to come the park and participate in the “Fastest Arm in Brooklyn Competition.” Prospective pitchers will be able to test their fastball speed on the Cyclones speed pitch machine. Rumor has it the winner may get an invite to join the team.
Throughout the evening, the public will be entertained by live music from cover bands performing both oldies and Top 40 songs, and a special performance by the String Orchestra of Brooklyn.
Concessions will be open. In addition, the stadium will hold a pig roast and “Beers of New York” will be served.
Admission is free, but people are asked to donate a charity to help with the recovery of the community.
