Cops from the 67th Precinct attending their annual Medal Day ceremony last week received a special surprise – a hearty salute from the “main boss” – Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.
The city’s top cop spent the Saturday morning chatting with the rank and file and watched proudly as Inspector Corey Pegues, the precinct’s commanding officer, hand out dozens of awards to outstanding officers who continue to drive crime down in East Flatbush.
He even had time to eat with the rank and file and chat with the families of the officers receiving heartfelt accolades by Pegues and precinct administrators.
Among the awardees was Police Officer Lewis Ducceschi, who received a coveted “Cop of the Year” honor.
Pegues said that Officer Ducceschi deserved the award for his many arrests, as well as the glowing reports he received from his supervisors.
It was one of two awards Ducceschi received last week.
On Friday, the East Flatbush beat cop also received a special “Patrol Borough Brooklyn South Cop of the Month Award” by Chief Joseph Fox, Brooklyn South’s top cop.
As he handed out awards, Pegues noted that while some officers, supervisors and detectives were singled out for their hard work, the entire command worked together to make the last year – his first as commander – one for the record books in the 67th Precinct.
Thanks to everyone’s hard efforts, the precinct managed to attain a four percent drop in crime at the end of 2008 as well as lead the city in gun arrests.
