Schneps Media is proud to announce that Brooklyn Paper has named Zachary Gewelb as the Paper’s new editor-in-chief.
Gewelb is coming over to Kings County from Queens, where he served for a year as editor-in-chief of Schneps Media’s TimesLedger Newspapers.
In addition to serving as the Paper’s top editor, Gewelb will also oversee the editorial operations of Schneps Media’s four Courier Life newspapers in the borough: the Park Slope Courier, Mill-Marine Courier, Bay News, and Brooklyn Graphic.
“Zach has the experience, passion and leadership to continue to grow our reach throughout Brooklyn with award-winning content,” said CEO and co-publisher Joshua Schneps. “He has proven to be a great leader of the TimesLedger group and we are thrilled to have him take on the role as editor-in-chief in Brooklyn.”
Gewelb, 26, first joined TimesLedger in December 2016 to manage the newsroom and run the TimesLedger’s website. He also served as sports editor and entertainment editor while overseeing the paper’s layout and design operations.
Gewelb will take over for Anthony Rotunno, both as editor-in-chief and as co-host of Brooklyn Paper Radio. He will oversee the editorial team in its print and digital operations, with a focus on growing the latter by expanding online coverage and social-media presence in order to deliver hyper-local news to even more readers around Kings County.

A graduate of SUNY Oswego, Gewelb worked at North Jersey Media Group as a sports editor before joining the TimesLedger staff, where he served as deputy editor for a year before taking over as editor-in-chief.
Gewelb made his inaugural appearance on last week’s episode of Brooklyn Paper Radio and said his main focus will be shining a light on the people in Brooklyn whose stories deserve to be told.
“In community news, the people are what is most important, and whether it’s sports or in the arts, our job is to highlight those people,” he said. “I can’t say enough how excited I am for this opportunity. I am absolutely thrilled to be here.”
Gewelb enthusiastically promised to hit the ground running, assuring Brooklynites they can expect the same style of deeply reported, hyper-local news to fill the Paper’s pages and website under his reign.
