Mini-maz leads Cyclones to victory

L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli completed his terrific day with an RBI double in the top of the ninth to score Ismael “T.J.” Tijerina with the winning run.

Mazzilli went 3-for-4 on the day, with two singles and the double. He also reached first on a catcher interference call in the second inning after Patrick “To Infinity and” Biondi hit an RBI single to score James “Papa” Roche for the first points on the scoreboard.

The score remained 1—0 until the seventh, when Kevin Mager, the culprit from Tuesday’s Spinner win, hit an RBI sac fly to tie the game.

The Cyclones proceeded to take back the lead in the eighth off an RBI single by catcher Tomas Nido, only to watch the Spinners tie it again in the bottom of the inning.

After Tijerina got on base in the ninth on a leadoff walk, Mazzilli continued the seesaw game with his winning RBI double. Pitcher Johnny Magliozzi, who had a nightmare inning against Connecticut a week ago where he let three runs score, redeemed himself in impressive fashion in the bottom of the ninth striking out all three Spinners to get the save.

The Cyclones will look to win the rubber match tonight at 7:05 pm.
