Morton’s sets the date; steakhouse to open on Nov. 21

Morton’s the Steakhouse is best known for its $53 porterhouses and business lunches, but when the chain’s first Brooklyn location opens on Nov. 21, its bar will actually be a great place to ride out the recession.

The Adams Street eatery, the 81st in the carnivorous chain, will include weeknight happy-hour bargains like three cheeseburgers or four small filet mignon sandwiches (pictured) for six bucks.

That’s a lot of meat for very little green. And it’s a great way to say hello to the new neighbors.

“Morton’s is excited to be a part of the resurgence of Downtown Brooklyn,” the chain’s regional operations director Raul Adorno told GO Brooklyn. “We hope that the residents are as exited about us coming as we are to be there.”

Talk about a happy hour: At Morton’s the Steakhouse, the best deals are during Happy Hour, when four steak sandwiches or three mini-cheeseburgers are just $6.

Oh, the residents are excited. Pictures of the mini-filet mignon sandwiches — remember, they’re four for $6! — circulated around The Brooklyn Paper’s DUMBO newsroom like a dog-eared porn magazine in a high-school locker room and reporters began discussing the prospects of daily, late afternoon “story meetings.”

Of course, reporters are notoriously frugal. Customers who want the full sit-down experience (and still have one of those things that used to be called “expense accounts”) can enjoy the lush men’s club-style dining room and the full menu, including shrimp cocktail ($21), a Luger-rivaling porterhouse ($53.50), a Chicago-style, bone-in ribeye ($51.50), Alaskan king crab legs ($59.50), the chain’s self-described “Legendary Hot Chocolate Cake,” and a full wine list (heavy on the lush, full-bodied reds).
