It’s a five-in-one shot that no one is happy about, save for one ambitious burglar.
Cops were told Saturday that someone broke into a busy Bedford Avenue commercial building, breaking into the four businesses and a house of worship inside.
Officials said that whoever broke into the building stole cell phones and computer equipment from some of the businesses, but, although he tried, never made it into Congregation Cheim Heckesl.
Investigators believe that the string of break-ins took place sometime after 1 p.m. on May 16. Many of the businesses inside were closed by 2 p.m., as merchants began preparing for the Sabbath.
While it is unclear just how the thief entered the building, police said that he tried to pry open the front door of Congregation Cheim Heckesl with a crowbar – although he only ended up damaging the lock – and forced his way inside SBH Holidays LLC on the second floor, although nothing was reported missing.
Police were told that the thief did take a Dell computer, printer and hard drive from Ababy.com, a online baby nursery supply company.
The burglar also removed a $250 cell phone from SH Estates and a flat screen monitor from Zev Baum LLC, officials said.
Police explained that all of the businesses were located in the same building between Ross and Rodney streets.
The five thefts made up half of the ten burglaries that took place in Williamsburg between May 12 and May 18, officials said.
Cops are currently combating a nearly 15 percent rise in burglaries so far this year.
By May 18, 2007, detectives had investigated 110 break-ins, according to police statistics. On the same date this year, 126 burglaries had been reported, officials said.
Cops are asking anyone with information regarding this mini burglary spree to come forward.
