Fashion, art & music re-defined describes Backyard Couture, a backyard event held at Harriet’s Alter Ego Boutique & Art Gallery, showcasing emerging designers, local musicians, artists and DJs.
Harriet’s hosts the final installment of Backyard Couture, August 16 from 5 to 11 p.m.; attendees can purchase one-of-a-kind pieces from local designers, sample complimentary cocktails, listen to live music and partake in a backyard BBQ.
This installment of Backyard Couture features Ripe Jewelry (a collection of sterling silver and 14K gold plated pendants and earrings inspired by the female figure), YakBlak (funky and rare vintage sunnies for gals and gents), J Wears (Edgy and unique clutches with a hint of sophistication) and The Socialist Movement (a line of socially conscious t-shirts).
The art component includes two non-traditional art pieces. ‘Diva Dutch’ is an interactive public art piece during which two black women are connecting to each by braided hair that forms double-dutch ropes. Passersby are then invited to participate in the piece by jumping rope. The Art of Freestyle is a live installation at which four painters like freestyle emcees take inspirations from their surroundings to create pieces on the spot.
Other event highlights include a performance by Raye 6, DJ sets, and a $30 summer blowout sale, at which all Harriet’s summer inventory will be discounted up to 75% for one day only.
Harriet’s is at 293 Flatbush Avenue between St. Marks Avenue and Prospect Place. For more, visit www.harrietsalteregoonline.com or call 718-783-2074.
