It was a free show with no strings attached — except the ones on-stage.
Bushwick youngsters and their parents enjoyed a gratis puppetry performance of “Tales of Brier Rabbit” at Maria Hernandez Park on July 7 and attendees said it was a good time for young and old.
“It was cool,” said Jocelyn Marquis, who was there with her son John. “It was a really nice production.”
Around 50 people showed up to the see park-events organization the City Parks Foundation’s traveling marionette theater PuppetMobile perform a modern spin on the old folktale about a trickster bunny and his adventures.
The peripatetic puppetry troupe first performed the show in Sunset Park back in April, and City Parks says it was so successful that it decided to continue the production all summer long as part of its broader Summer Stage Kids festival, which brings live music, dance, and theater shows to parks across the city.
“ ‘Tales of Brier Rabbit,’ has been a tremendous hit with our audiences across the city,” said Monique Martin, programming director at the City Parks Foundation. “So we are thrilled to present it as part of our festival this summer.”
The group will perform the show many more times at parks around Brooklyn through September.
