This past September, New York Congregational Home for the Aged Foundation held their 19th Annual Spirit of Life Celebration at the Palm House at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. This year they focused on “choices.” At New York Congregational Nursing Center, having choices allows one to retain a sense of control over what happens during the course of a day. Each day, in so many ways residents and patients are encouraged to exercise their choices in activities, therapies, nursing care delivery, meal selection, and clothing to wear.
In addition the Long Term Home Health Care Program has reached capacity and cares for patients in their homes. Many patients who would otherwise be in a nursing home now have the choice to remain in their home and receive services in the home. These choices make quality of life a reality.
The two honorees of this celebration reflect choices made to enhance the quality of life of the people they serve. Mathy Mezey, EdD, RN, FAAN, has authored 11 books and has over 70 publications that focus on geriatric nursing education and the quality of care for older people in hospitals and long term care and Nancy Bradley, founder and President of Key Computing.
“At Congregational, we believe choice is the fundamental exercise of individuality,” said Celia C. Zuckerman, President and Chief Executive Officer.
New York Congregational Nursing Center is a 200-bed, nationally and state award-winning skilled nursing facility located at 135 Linden Boulevard, Brooklyn.
