NYPD: Cop shot knife-wielding man in Bushwick

A cop shot and wounded a man who officers say approached them with a kitchen knife on Wednesday night in Bushwick.

Police said they responded to a domestic violence call on Hancock Street between Wilson and Central avenues at 8:07 pm. When they arrived, the 26-year-old suspect was wielding a 12-inch blade, they said. The two officers commanded him to drop the knife, but he came towards them, they said.

The cops drew their guns and one blasted the guy in the torso, according to a report.

Responders transported the man to Kings County Hospital Center in stable condition, and the two officers were treated for tinnitus and released, law enforcement officials said.

An NYPD rep said an investigation is ongoing. The department has charged the suspect with assault, menacing, and weapon possession.

The shooting comes as police citywide have dramatically curtailed enforcement of minor crimes citywide in an apparent work slowdown.
