An off-duty police officer driving a motorcycle died after he was struck by the driver of a sports utility vehicle in Canarsie on May 4, according to the police department.
Authorities say Royston Ferguson was driving a 2005 Ducati motorcycle on Rockaway Parkway between Avenue J and Flatlands Avenue when a woman hit him with a 2015 Kia Sorreno while she was making a U-turn on the parkway at 7:07 pm.
Cops say Royston slammed into the passenger side of the vehicle, which sent him flying from his motorcycle. Emergency medical services transported Ferguson to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver was taken to Kings County Hospital, where she was treated for neck and back pain. The 3-year-old boys who were passengers in her vehicle were not injured, authorities said.
Police say there have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
Ferguson was an officer in a Brooklyn North precinct and his 10-year anniversary with the department would have been in July, according to police.
