A tractor-trailer split in half on Flatbush Avenue Extension near Tillary Street on Wednesday, forcing cops to close a stretch of the Prospect Heights–bound side of the road as they removed the broken big rig from the pavement.
The man behind the wheel of the Pullman Logistics 18-wheeler said he was just 11 miles from his destination when his rear cabin collapsed due to the weight of its cargo, which shifted to the middle of the trailer, according to our on-the-scene photographer Paul Martinka, who said the truck was filled with loads of sugar.
The trucker made it over the Manhattan Bridge all the way from Illinois before his big rig buckled a little after 2 pm, snarling traffic for hours as officials cleared the street, Martinka said.
Thankfully, the incident injured no one, and damaged no other vehicles on the busy thoroughfare, according to cops, who said a tow truck ultimately hauled the wrecked tractor-trailer away.
