Marine Park morphed into a patriot’s haven, drawing a sea of red, white and blue for a troop rally and Flag Day celebration, presented by State Senator Marty Golden.
Local veterans groups, students and area residents joined their civic leaders and elected officials to deliver a tall salute to American servicemembers, stationed at home and abroad, during a pomp−filled program along the Fillmore Avenue side of the sprawling green, accompanied by musical performances, a color guard, the presentation of Taps and the distribution of small flags.
“It is important that we gather as a community in Brooklyn to show our support for the brave men and women of our armed forces, fighting to defend our freedoms,” said Golden, adding, “The sights and sounds of the anti−war sentiment so vocal in America is demoralizing to our troops.”
