To The Editor:
I’m an entertainer, pursuing my dream in the big city.
But as it stands when I try to get on a subway to get to an audition, I sometimes have to let two trains go ahead before I can even board due to the overcrowding.
Once I do get on my train it’s usually still crowded no matter what time of day or night it is, and believe me, as a performer I take the train at all hours. But what’s worse than that is that there is no other affordable option for someone like me.
I don’t have the money to curse the subway and just jump in a cab. So, while the current ride in the subway is overcrowded, overpriced and soon to be more so, there is no cheaper alternative for me and most other New Yorkers.
What is the MTA’s solution? To raise the fare and cut service. How are the common non-taxicab riding, non-car owners in New Yorker supposed to deal with that kind of news? Why are we being made to suffer with no alternatives or options? Where did the surplus of funds in MTA go? I know I paid my taxes and have not been provided for adequately.
I hope the MTA will start to see what a hardship this is for common everyday people in this great city of New York.
