The life of poet, journalist and Brooklynite Walt Whitman was celebrated last Friday on the Pier 1 lawn at new Brooklyn Bridge Park, where the Brooklyn Heights Association collaborated with Issue Project Room to present a night of music played to a marathon reading of Whitman’s masterful 19th-century collection “Leaves of Grass.”
The outdoor concert lasted from 5 pm into the late evening, and featured performances by the CSC Funk band, the Wingdale community singers, and Prince Rama, among others.
