Prospect Heights’s Impact Theater is staging
nine new works in a broad-ranging, two-week "Winter One-Act
Festival" that begins on Jan. 19.

Among the featured playwrights are Christine Conley and Elisa
Abatsis (pictured). According to festival producer Emma Rivera,
the works range from improv "to the Absurdist to the profound,
from tragedy to laugh-out-loud comedy."

Abatsis’s "Statues of Liberty," directed by Nicole
Franklin, runs Jan. 26-28 at 8 pm and Jan. 29 at 3 pm. "Statues"
tackles the nature of love, the validity of astrology and the
impact of Don Henley, according to Rivera.

Tickets to the performances at the Impact Theater (190 Underhill
Ave. between Sterling and St. Johns places) are $15 and $12 for
students and seniors. For reservations and more information,
