A grand Brooklyn tradition will continue on May 17 with the 49th annual Park Slope House Tour.
Put together by the Park Slope Civic Council, the tour showcases nine beautiful Park Slope homes that, in the words of event coordinator Candace Woodward, “you just don’t see made anymore.”
Each year, the tour focuses on a different area of Park Slope. This year, it will start at the Berkeley-Carroll School (181 Lincoln Place) at noon and cover an eclectic range of houses from President Street to Park Place from Sixth to Eighth avenues.
Included on the tour will be an interlude at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (58 7th Avenue), which was originally designed as a private home in 1881.
At 2 p.m., the Ron Jackson trio, a highly-regarded jazz band, will perform.
The tour will also include a stop at the Montauk Club (25 8th Avenue), a magnificent Venetian Gothic palazzo built between 1889 and 1891. The club is known for its superb terra-cotta ornamentation, including a continuous frieze depicting the history of Long Island’s Montauk Native Americans.
While event organizers were reluctant to publicize the addresses of the houses out of privacy concerns, they provided descriptions designed to whet the appetite of fans of old brownstone architecture.
Many of these houses also have an eclectic range of collections; some of them have gardens as well.
