Open Space Alliance of N. Brooklyn fundraiser

Come drink a mimosa with OSA!

The Open Space Alliance of North Brooklyn, the area’s parks advocacy non−profit, will host a fundraiser next Thursday night, May 14, in the gleaming penthouse of 1 Northside Piers at N. 5th Street and the waterfront.

The event celebrates the coming of spring and the impending seven−day−a−week opening of Pier 5, the 400−foot−pier off Northside Piers. In January, the pier opened on weekends, becoming the first publically accessible parcel of open space resulting from the rezoning of the Williamsburg−Greenpoint waterfront, which enabled high−rise condos but mandated that open space be provided along the river.

Stephanie Thayer, OSA’s executive director and the Parks Department administrator for North Brooklyn, said she expects the pier to open seven days a week by the end of May. Also, she said she expects the pier to stay open until dusk.

“I want people to be able to watch the sunset over the East River,” she said.

The fundraiser will be catered by three local businesses. Brooklyn Standard Deli (188 Nassau Avenue) will provide the food; the Brooklyn Brewery will serve beer; and Greenpoint Wine & Liquor Inc. will serve wine and spirits.
