Tri-City 6
Cyclones 3
Sept. 3 at Tri-City
Matt “Bright Eyes” Oberste’s solo home run in the top of the seventh only put a mild dent in the final score as Tri-City beat the Cyclones for the second straight night, handing Brooklyn its fifth straight loss and putting the team on the bring of its first sub-.500 season in history.
The Valley Cats started quickly when James Ramsay, Ryan Dineen, and Tyler White led off the first base hits, the last of which sent Ramsay home for the early lead. Dineen scored in the same inning off a fielding error by Ismael Tijerina to increase the lead to 2–0.
However, the Clones responded with two runs in the second inning thanks to an RBI single by Eddie Rohan that sent James “Papa” Roche home. Oberste later scored on a fielder’s choice to tie the game.
But the Valley Cats went on to score the next four runs to put the game out of reach. One of the runs came on a wild pitch by starting pitcher John Gant, while the other three all came in the third inning off a two-run triple by Ronnie Mitchell and an RBI sac fly by Chan Moon.
Oberste hit his solo shot to right field, but it did not allow any other runners to get into scoring position and eventually fizzled out.
The Clones fell to 37—37 on the season and need to win tonight’s final game of the season to preserve their 13th straight season with a winning record. The game’s first pitch will come at approximately 6 pm.
