Outfielder Julian Ridings scored on a fielder’s choice in the 11th inning for the only run of the game as the Renegades shut out the Cyclones for the second straight day.

The game went scoreless into extra innings despite close calls on both sides. Second baseman L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli threw out Renegades’ Jonathan Quinonez at home in the fifth to prevent a run. But Clones’ outfielder Jorge Rivero met the same fate in the eighth when Renegade Tyler Young’s throw beat him to home plate.

Cyclones batters didn’t reach base in seven of the 11 innings, going three-up and three-down each time.

The Renegades finally broke threw in the 11th. Ridings doubled to right and reached third on a sacrifice bunt by Ariel Soriano before scoring on Ty Young’s chopper to Mazzilli, who fielded the tricky hop and threw to the plate. But the speedy Ridings slid around the tag to win the game.

Robert “The ‘G’ is silent” Gsellman three eight shutout innings for the Clones, giving up four hits, walking none, and striking out four on the afternoon. He has not given up a run in 17 innings this season.

The Cyclones return home for a rare single-admission doubleheader against the despised Staten Island Yankees tonight starting at 6 pm.

Brooklyn Cyclones at MCU Park (Surf Avenue and W. 16th Street in Coney Island, www.brooklyncyclones.com) on July 1 at 6 pm.
