Out of the foggy pan, into the win column!

The Cyclones are so good that even Mother Nature is a big fan.

The proof came in last Friday’s showdown with the Auburn Doubledays when a fog swooped in during the fifth inning and refused to budge.

Despite the murky skies, the game continued. But in the bottom half of the inning, Cyclone slugger John Servidio hit a ground ball past second base that disappeared in the merciless vapors — in fact, the Auburn centerfielder actually ran back towards the outfield wall.

Auburn’s manager Dennis Holmberg had seen enough, demanding that the umpires delay the game. The men in blue complied, but Holmberg should have been careful about what he wished for; after a half-hour fog delay, the Cyclones were declared the winners.

Afterwards, Cyclones Manager Pedro Lopez smiled like an Englishman in a misty Trafalgar Square.

“We’ll take this win,” he said.
