The Brooklyn Cyclones have admitted, openly, that they love Park Slope.
Bucking a longstanding trend that culminated with a Slope-hating article in this week’s Sunday Times, the borough’s popular minor-league baseball team announced that its Sunday, July 27 game against the hated Staten Island Yankees would officially be known as “The Cyclones Love Park Slope Night.”
And in tribute to that much-maligned neighborhood, team officials unveiled a slate of Slope-themed stunts, including:
• “Stroller Olympic” events between innings.
• A stroller valet outside Keyspan Park.
• A pre-game “Gymboree” session in centerfield.
• A post-game stroller race around the basepaths.
Parents are also encouraged to send in videos of their kids, which will be played on the scoreboard during breaks.
General manager Steve Cohen said the lovefest was not merely a cynical ploy to attract media attention.
“We were extremely upset to see one of our favorite areas of Brooklyn disparaged,” he said. “We want Park Slopers to know that the Cyclones support them, and celebrate them.”
