Brooklyn’s waterfront is set to roll back into motion this spring as the Pier 2 roller skating rink reopens for its 12th season on March 27, ushering in a lively mix of music, movement and community along the East River.
Located within Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 2 has long been a hub for recreation, but the return of its open-air roller rink signals the start of the season and an influx of outdoor activities for families. The skating surface itself is unique, made of plastic-based materials to provide a “smoother ride and softer landing compared to traditional concrete surfaces.”
Opening day will double as a celebration, with “live music, snacks, and a variety of activities for all ages,” organizers said. From 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., the roller rink will offer free admission to all attendees. From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., its public skate will offer $5 admission. If needed, skate rentals are $8, and skate mate rentals are available for $6.

The rink will remain open through November, with a calendar that extends beyond casual skating. Plans for themed nights, group outings, lessons and community-driven events aim to keep the space dynamic through the summer and fall.
“Whether you’re a seasoned skater or trying it for the first time, Pier 2 promises an unforgettable experience,” organizers added. “The rink is designed for everyone, from families to groups of friends looking to enjoy an active day out.”
