Police Blotter

One man was killed and another was seriously injured following a harrowing shooting at the Venice Marina Saturday.

As of this writing, cops were still searching for the gunman, who hot-footed it across the Belt Parkway following the afternoon bloodbath by the water, officials said.

Police said that an argument over a Jet Ski may have sparked the shooting, which took place on a boat tethered to a pier off the marina, 3939 Emmons Avenue, at 3:45 p.m. on August 8.

Two men, identified in published reports as 37-year-old Michael Mazzara and 33-year-old Paul Moghab, were on the pier with a third man when the shooter approached them.

After a brief discussion, the suspect, a white male in his thirties that at least one of the victims knew, pulled a gun from his backpack and started blasting.

All three men fell off the boat into the water. Mazzara was shot in the face.

But a struggle for air led to Moghab’s undoing, officials said. When he surfaced, the suspect trained his gun on Moghab and let loose another barrage of bullets, striking the 33-year-old in the chest.

The third male, who was not injured, reportedly hid from sight until the suspect ran off across the Belt Parkway.

Paramedics rushed Moghab to Coney Island Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Mazzara was taken to Lutheran Medical Center, where doctors listed him in serious condition.

Cops are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward.
