Police recovered the body of 35-year-old Carmine Carini Jr. from a Mill Basin marina on Sept. 2.
A passerby spotted the floating figure in the waterway at E. 58th Street and Avenue U at about 11:30 am Saturday, according to authorities. Emergency responders lifted the body out of the water — which was wrapped in blue tarp, sealed with duct tape, and weighed down with a cinder block, according to the Daily News.
The medical examiner determined that Carini dies from blunt force trauma to his head, the News reported, but police said the investigation is still ongoing.
Carini, who lived on Mill Avenue between 56th and National drives, was the son of the elder Carmine Carini, a mobster who did more than 20 years in prison for a murder prosecutors later learned he wasn’t directly involved with, according to the News.
The slain Carini also did his own stints in prison for robbery and drugs, the News reported.
