Despite a litany of differences, East Flatbush kids and cops from the 67th Precinct found some common ground at the fields at Paerdegat Park at Albany Avenue and Farragut Road where a special Sports Festival was held.
Local youths and their community protectors shucked off their uniforms of choice and put on athletic ware as they challenged each other to rousing games of softball, soccer, cricket, flag football and basketball.
Participants capped off the day with a delicious barbecue lunch, said organizers, who hoped that Saturday’s games was the first of many community ice breakers.
“It’s all about community and police relationship building,” said Inspector Corey Pegues, commanding officer of the 67th Precinct. “Kids got to see cops in a whole different light, and cops came out with their families. It was a really nice day.”
