Lock it up.
That is the message of the top cop at the police precinct serving Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, which saw four break–ins, four car burglaries, and two car thefts reported last week. Most of the loss could have been prevented, as three of the auto incidents were probably the result of an unlocked door, and three of the apartment break-ins involved an open window.
“I know it’s hot,” said Capt. Peter Fiorillo, commanding officer of the 88th Precinct. “But I’m asking people to be a little more cautious.”
Fiorillo suspects the rash of thefts is the result of a few bad apples.
“We have a few people doing a lot of crime,” he said.
A certain recidivist may be responsible for these incidents, since the number fell off while he was incarcerated, Fiorillo said.
“It goes to show it’s a good thing if you can put them away,” he said.
