Former Bay Ridge District Leader and community advocate Kevin Peter Carroll died on June 2. He was 33.
The native Brooklynite ran for the Democratic Bay Ridge Council seat in 2017 and made history in 2010 when he became the borough’s youngest-elected state committeeman at 24 years old.
He was the cousin of Assemblyman Robert Carroll (D-Park Slope), a staffer for Councilman Stephen Levin (D-Brooklyn Heights), and a member of Community Board 10.
Carroll was reportedly found dead at home, according to Bklyner.com.
Politicians from across the borough took to social media to mourn Carroll’s untimely passing and praise his community work.
“Shocked to hear the news about Kevin’s untimely passing. Politics was in his DNA and he got involved in community activism from a very early age. He was especially a champion for our seniors,” Councilman Justin Brannan (D-Bay Ridge) said via Twitter. “ May he RIP & may the entire Carroll family find comfort during this difficult time.”
Republican Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, whose district spans parts of Bay Ridge and Staten Island, lauded Carroll for his passionate community work.
“Very sad to hear that Kevin Peter Carroll who served as Brooklyn democratic district leader in my district passed away at 33,” Malliotakis said on Twitter. “He had a great passion for politics & community. I enjoyed working with him where we found common ground. We had a nice relationship. May he rest in peace.”
Congressman Max Rose (D-Bay Ridge) also offered his condolences and praised Carroll’s deep knowledge of his neighborhood.
“I’ve known Kevin for years and was always an admirer of his commitment to the community and deep knowledge of all that is Bay Ridge,” he wrote on Twitter. “You will never be forgotten, Kevin.”
