After only winning eight games in 2007, the Lincoln lady Railsplitters had one of their most successful seasons in recent memory as they capture a co-share of the Brooklyn “A” Division title. Since coming back to action from spring break, Lincoln has been a perfect 5-0 against their divisional opponents, including a forfeit victory over main division rival, Madison. The huge 17-2 win over Canarsie on May 17 ensured Lincoln a share of what has been Madison’s for the past five seasons – the title as the division’s top team. (All stats are as of press time.)
Saturday, May 17
Lincoln 17, Canarsie 2- All Lincoln needed was five innings since they had already jumped out to a 14-1 lead in the second inning as they pummeled Canarsie, 17-2 to clinch a share of the division with a 14-2 record, which is identical to Madison’s.
Leading the lady ‘Splitters was second baseman Liza Acevedo, who went 1-for-1 as her single drove home a team-high three runs. Shortstop Analisha McKenith, catcher Francesca Gagliardi, left fielder Kimberly Magidson, and pitcher Sabrina Aponte all had two R.B.I. apiece to cap the Lincoln offense.r Aponte (6-0) also picked up the victory as the hurler tossed five frames of one run, three hit ball while fanning seven.

New Utrecht 14, Fort Hamilton 9- New Utrecht catcher Lisa Morro led all hitters by going 4-for-5 with a double, a single, and two home runs, while bringing home a team-high five runs to charter New Utrecht’s course, 14-9. Right fielder Angela Cipriano and center fielder Krystal Class each contributed two R.B.I. in the New Utrecht win. The victory for the lady Utes capped their regular season record at 9-7.
Lincoln 15, Grand Street Campus 2- In a career-high afternoon for Lincoln battery mates, catcher Francesca Gagliardi and pitcher Katharine Fuentes combined for 11 R.B.I, as Lincoln derail Grand Street, 15-2. The backstop, Gagliardi went 2-for-3 with a home run and a triple as she drove in six runs.
Fuentes not only did the job on the hill, surrendering two runs on two hits to pick-up her eighth victory of the season, but she went 3-for-3 with two home runs and a single to bring home five runs while scoring three times herself. Right behind her was second baseman Liza Acevedo, who drove in two runs on two singles in three at-bats.
Madison 12, Midwood 0- After beating Midwood, 13-0 on May 13, the Madison lady Knights showed that they ruled the Bedford Avenue rival in a 12-0 win to sweep the “home-and-home” series. Madison ace Marie Oneto (8-0) capped off another successful season, by pitching six shutout innings to win her eighth consecutive game of the regular season. Her performance was dominating as she only allowing two singles and three walks while she mesmerized Midwood hitters, all afternoon long, as she fanned 13 to earn the “W.”
Offensively, first baseman Nikki Panaro went 2-for-4 with a home run while driving-in three runs and had two runs scored. Catcher Becky Ganley and right fielder Leshanda Miller each drove home two scores to solidify the Madison offensive onslaught.
The win for Madison improved their record to 15-2 while Midwood finished their disappointing 2008 season with a 6-11 campaign.
