Raise your glass and the flag for National Heart Month. Maimonides Heart and Vascular Institute celebrated the event with its annual flag raising and the wearing of the red on Feb. 23.

Kenneth Gibbs, president and chief executive officer, offered opening remarks and introduced Dr. Jacob Shani, chairman of cardiology, who provided an overview of services and achievements. Joining in the event were Dr. Greg Ribakove, director of cardiothoracic surgery; Dr. Robert Rhee, chief of vascular surgery; and Declan Doyle, senior vice president of operations and clinical Programs, who gave closing remarks that outlined the excellence in cardiovascular care at Maimonides.

Following the program, staffers, clad in red, gathered in support of heart health and cheered as the Heart Month flag was hoisted outside the hospital’s main entrance on 10th Avenue.

The Maimonides Heart and Vascular Institute has a long-standing reputation for outstanding patient outcomes. According to a New York State Department of Health report, Maimonides Heart valve surgeons have significantly low mortality rates — lower, in fact, than any hospital in Manhattan.
