Come by yourself, with a friend, or with your kids and work with choreographer Lynn Neuman, composer Leanne Darling, and the company of dancers to learn steps and rhythms that inspire “Recession Dances, and so can you!,” which draws from the dance and music styles of previous 20th century recession eras in the United States
The workshop is 3-3:50 p.m., and the performance is 4-5 p.m., September 12 at Washington Park/JJ Byrne Playground, Fifth Avenue between Third & Fourth streets.
Styles such as the Lindy Hop and West Coast Swing (Great Depression) and the Hustle (’70s oil crisis), provide fodder, but the dances and music are refashioned for the 21st century and spiced with Artichoke Dance Company’s daring signature partnering.
With heroic force, Artichoke Dance Company takes the audience on an historic journey ending with an invitation for the audience to join in the escapism of the dance.
