Bay Ridge
Friends, family and even some pols showed up at BRAVO (Bay Ridge Ambulance Volunteer Organizations) headquarters to honor the late Lt. Walter J. Nelson, an EMS officer who passed away May 2, 2014 at the age of 59, by dedicating a classroom in his honor on April 25.
Mary Nelson, wife of Lt. Nelson, along with daughter Pia and son Kristofor, also an EMS officer, shared their memories with BRAVO president Gene Anderson and Jennifer Schiano, executive BRAVO veep, at the ceremonies dedicating the room and state Sen. Marty Golden (R–Bay Ridge) presented the family with a proclamation.
Lieutenant Nelson was a decorated member of the force, a BRAVO lifetime member, lead instructor in the BRAVO Training Department, and a past BRAVO Board Member.
BRAVO opened its doors in 1974 and since that time has provided emergency treatment to countless residents in Bay Ridge. When seconds matter, Bravo delivers.
Our very own shutter-bug Steven Solomonson, a volunteer EMS member himself, was on hand to capture the moment.
