Rock – and bike – on, Williamsburg

Cyclists have a new place to park their bicycle – a guitar-shaped bicycle rack on the corner of Bedford Avenue and North 6th Street. Called the “Hipster,” the rack was designed by David Byrne, former Talking Heads frontman, artist and biking enthusiast, as part of an effort through the city Department of Transportation and Manhattan gallery PaceWildenstein to boost interest in cycling in the city as well as add creative, temporary art to the city’s streets. One of nine racks throughout the city, the designs from their neighborhoods (hence Williamsburg’s music inspiration), with some of the others in the city including a steel dollar-sign on Wall Street and a car’s silhouette near the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel, and will be up for approximately the next 11 months.
