A local hospital was in the spotlight during Com-munity Board 10’s monthly Honor of the Pledge.
Dr. Joseph Cunningham, chairperson of the Depart-ment of Surgery and senior vice president of strategic projects for Maimonides Medical Center, accepted the tribute, on behalf of Maimonides President and CEO, Pamela Brier, during the board’s May meeting, which was held at the Norwegian Christian Home, 1250 67th Street.
CB 10 Chairperson Dean Rasinya praised Maimonides’ level of “excellence.
“We all benefit,” he contended, “because it is our local hospital.”
Cunningham, who acknowledged the efforts of nearby Lutheran Medical Center, as well, in bringing high quality medical care to the borough, said, “We are delighted we can deliver health care to this end of Brooklyn.”
Among the changes at Maimonides, he noted, is a new eight-story wing that contains new intensive care units.
“We have a host of other initiatives,” Cunningham added. “We are particularly proud of our stroke center.
“When you have a stroke, you have minutes, literally,” to act, Cunningham stressed. “We are trying to provide residents of this end of Brooklyn with the opportunity to get quickly to a stroke center so severe disabling consequences are not evident.”
Maimonides is located at 4802 Tenth Avenue.
