Not so safe
A prowler snuck into an unlocked Metropolitan Avenue apartment on June 19 and stole several expensive items, according to the authorities.
A guy who was staying at his friend’s abode between N. Fifth and N. Sixth streets reported that he left the door unlocked when he stepped out at 2:30 pm and, when he returned 30 minutes later, he found a safe missing. The safe contained several Cartier watches, sunglasses, a laptop, an iPad, and jewelry, according to cops.
Working stiffs
A pair of chiselers conned their way into an elderly woman’s Conselyea Street apartment on June 13 and stole jewelry and cash, cops said.
The woman said that she was sitting in front of her house between Manhattan Avenue and Leonard Street at 4 pm when the scoundrels told her they were from the water department and they had to check her pipes for water pollution. She let the rapscallions into her house and accompanied one of them downstairs, officers stated.
While they were downstairs, the other thief was upstairs unsupervised for about half an hour and, when the pair finally left, she found several items missing, including some Rolex watches, jewelry and cash, according to a report.
Romancing the victim
A punk tried to interrupt a woman’s cellphone conversation by spitting game at her, then snatched her phone on N. Fifth Street on June 13, police said.
The victim told police that she was sitting on a bench between Kent and Wythe avenues, gabbing away at 6:45 pm, when the juvenile delinquent stopped to tell her how beautiful she was.
He then grabbed the device and fled on his bicycle, a report states.
