Salute to Bay Ridge patriot – CB10 Honor of the Pledge goes to Howard Dunn

A longtime civic activist and advocate for veterans was the recipient of Community Board 10’s Honor of the Pledge for April.

Howard Dunn, who served in the U.S. Navy in the 1940s, is known throughout Bay Ridge for his efforts to ensure that flags fly on the neighborhood’s commercial strips. He is also a long-time member of the Bay Ridge Community Council (BRCC).

Dunn was county commander of the American Legion in 1968, and has been involved with the Boy Scouts of America since 1939, said Dean Rasinya, the board’s chairperson, when he introduced Dunn during the meeting, which was held at the Knights of Columbus hall, 13th Avenue and 86th Street.

For his part, Dunn urged his listeners to support veterans. “We have to take care of military personal, who have been out there, fighting for our country throughout the world,” he asserted. “There are many wounded. They are all in good spirits, but they are hurting. So, if you see one, help them out. I hope we can do a good job for the veterans who are in need.”
