Coney Island’s past, present and future generations were celebrated with words of appreciation and plaques of gratitude when Urban Neighborhood Services held an awards night at Gargiulo’s Restaurant.
The accolades capped a tribute program at the dining establishment, 2911 West 15th Street, and bestowed honors upon six notables for helping shape and navigate the fabled peninsula.
The honorees were: Frank Giordano, co−owner, Mermaid and Friscia pharmacies; Assemblymember Alec Brook−Krasny; Sophia Harrison, executive director, Art’s House Dance School; and community activist Brian Gotlieb.
“Preparing Future Leaders” awards were also presented to Sheryl Robertson, executive director, South Brooklyn Youth Consortium; and April Leong, founding principal, Liberation Diploma Plus High School.
Urban Neighborhood Services, 1718 Mermaid Avenue, is a multi−service non−profit organization, offering programs such as Financial Literacy, Summer Youth Leadership and Coney Island College Tour.
