Saved from roaring inferno

A hapless Glenwood Road resident was cherry-picked to safety early Tuesday as a smoky blaze erupted in his home.

Fire officials said that the all-hands blaze erupted in the basement of the building near Nostrand Avenue at about 1:22 a.m. Twelve fire units and 60 firefighters were dispatched to put out the blaze, which was rendered under control by 1:47 a.m.

Officials said that at least one man received a minor injury, although it was unclear if it was the man who was rescued by his window.

Fire marshals were still trying to determine what sparked the blaze as this paper went to press.
