Scooter snatch
A punk snatched a senior’s purse at the intersection of Avenue U and E. 54th Street on Feb. 3.
The 73-year-old victim told police that she was leaving a home improvement store on Avenue U around 1 pm, and was standing at the corner of the intersection when a bandit ripped her purse off of her shoulder from behind, according to police.
Cops said the cad fled on a scooter toward E. 54th Street and got away with several of the woman’s credit and debit cards, cash, and her identification card.
Apartment hustle
A fraudster scammed a Madison Place woman out of $2,000 between Jan. 27 and Feb. 1.
The woman, who lives near Nostrand Avenue, told police that she wired the money to someone in Oregon in response to an ad for a Florida apartment. But several days later she discovered that the apartment she was hoping to rent was never actually available, according to police.
Broken pieces
Someone broke several pieces of furniture and stole a man’s coin and stamp collection from his Hendrickson Street home between Jan. 7 and Feb. 1.
The victim told police that he suspects the culprit is a former girlfriend who had keys and access to his apartment near Avenue U, according to police. There were no signs of a break-in at the home, but the intruder got away with the man’s collectables, according to the report.
Bad friends
Cops arrested a man for stealing from an E. 32nd Street woman’s home between Jan. 22 and 31.
The woman told police that the man is a friend of hers and was hired to do work in her house, according to police. The woman believes during this time he stole gift cards, a credit card, some cash, and her identification cards.
Cops apprehended the suspect at his home around 10:10 pm and recovered the stolen cards, according to the report.
Fakes cashed
A con used an E. 73rd Street man’s bank account to cash a fake check on Jan. 24.
The man, who lives near Avenue L, told police that around noon on Feb. 1 he discovered that a fraudster used his account number to cash the check of $3,984.12, according to police.
Not so fast
Cops arrested a 52-year-old woman who they say stole clothing from an Avenue U department store on Feb. 4.
Security at the store near Flatbush Avenue told police that the woman entered around 6:45 pm and took a coat, two designer watches, and a pair of boots, according to police. Cops apprehended the woman about two hours later near the store, according to police.
Lost and taken
Someone stole a credit card from an E. 37th Street women’s mailbox on Jan. 30.
The woman, who lives near Flatlands Avenue, told police that she left her debit card on top of her the mailbox just after midnight, and returned to find it missing, according to police. Later that day she discovered that the thief tried to use the card, but was stopped.
Clean sweep
Someone stole the bumpers off of a man’s car parked on Bergen Avenue sometime overnight on Feb. 4.
The man told police that he left his car near Avenue K around 9 pm. He returned at 10:30 am the next day to find his vehicle’s front bumper, headlights, tail lights, and driver-side mirror missing, according to police.
Ghost debit
A sneak thief stole money from an E. 60th Street woman sometime overnight on Jan. 24.
The woman, who lives near Avenue T, told police that someone withdrew $700 from her bank account. Police said the woman was in possession of her debit card during the time the theft occurred, according to the report.
Credit and debit intercepts
Bandits intercepted two credit and debit cards in the mail. Here’s the rundown:
• A crook used an E. 71st Street man’s debit card between Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
The man told police that he never received the new card he was awaiting from the bank at his home near Avenue V, and discovered that someone used the card to make two transactions for an unknown amount of money, according to police.
• A nogoodnik used an E. 59th Street woman’s credit card to make purchases between Oct. 24 and Jan 7.
Cops said the woman, who lives near Avenue T, never received the credit card in the mail, and around 12:30 pm on Feb. 5, she discovered that someone had made purchases totalling $1,887 to her card, according to police.
