A shopper spent more than she thought she would when she left her pocketbook on the counter of a fancy soap shop on March 24.
The victim placed her pocketbook beside the register of the shop, which is near the corner of Flatbush and Atlantic avenues, at around 3:15 pm. She returned for it minutes later, but a crook had already escaped with the pocketbook, which contained credit cards, a gold nameplate and chain, and $295, cops say.
No fans of school
Thieves got onto the roof of a Gates Avenue public school during the Easter vacation and ended up stealing two expensive exhaust fans.
The crooks got onto the roof of the school, which is between Downing Street and Irving Place, possibly by climbing up a tree.
Once there, they stole the cooling units, which are worth $1,850.
Subway pick
A steady-handed thief picked a cellphone and ID from a woman’s purse while she rode the train on March 28.
The crook stealthily unzipped the woman’s purse at around 3 pm while they rode on a Manhattan-bound 4 train.
The woman didn’t realize that a crook had snatched her phone until she got off.
Car-nage!
Crooks stole at least two cars from Fort Greene streets last week, and broke into at two others. Here are the grisly details:
• Crooks took a voyage in a Voyager, stealing a Plymouth between March 26 at around 8 pm and 12:15 pm the next day. The thieves snatched the blue van, valued at $18,000, from its spot on Greene and Waverly avenues, cops say.
• Thieves stole a Jeep Cherokee from Clinton Avenue between Greene and Gates avenues sometime between 5:30 pm on March 27 and 9 am the following day. The thugs also got a 10-CD changer, a roof rack, an iPod charger and miscellaneous hunting gear.
• A photographer returned to his Acura after a night at the theater to find the windows smashed and his camera gone. Crooks had broken into the silver sedan, which was parked at the corner of Hanson Place and Flatbush Avenue on March 29, between 6 pm and 10 pm.
They snatched more than $1,200 of photography equipment and a navigation device.
• Thieves smashed the window of a blue Ford Explorer parked on the corner of Monument Walk and Park Avenue on March 30. The crooks broke into the truck between 2:40 pm and 8:30 pm, snatching $300, an iPod cable and credit cards.
Chokehold
A thug choked a woman for her computer bag on March 25.
The crook grabbed the woman just after midnight on the corner of Fulton Street and Washington Avenue.
“Give me your bag,” he said.
The woman refused, so the crook tried to pull the bag from her shoulder. They wrestled for the bag until the strap broke, scattering the woman’s belongings across the sidewalk. The crook grabbed a small purse from the ground and ran off, escaping with $80, an ID and a debit card.
