More than 1,000 eager job-seekers met prospective employers during an job fair at Kings Plaza on Sept. 15. The event was a great way for people to learn about work opportunities at the mall’s stores — and for employers to scout out some new hands — just in time for the holiday shopping season, which has apparently already begun, according one store manager.

“For the holiday season, which started already in retail — it starts now, not in October or November — we need to get as many people as we can now, so this way we can be prepared,” said Antoine Campbell of apparel retailer New York and Company. “It went very well — a lot of great interviews. Got a good amount of people that came out looking for work.”

About 40 businesses inside and outside Kings Plaza — including Old Navy, Macy’s, the Department of Civil Service, and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce — set up tables along a mall corridor as a way to hold quick, informative, and friendly interviews with potential employees. And the fair offered such a great mix of job opportunities that organizers plan to hold it again in the future, one said.

“It was extremely successful,” said mall spokeswoman Dawn Simon. “Definitely next year we will consider doing it again. It was a great mix of businesses and it created a great opportunity for our job seekers to seek to get employed.”
