They’re arming them with science!

The historic armory building in Park Slope was stocked with knowledge and wonder on Oct. 16 as kids from across the five boroughs traveled for the games and demonstrations of City of Science, a free event that managed to be awesome according those on hand.

“When you hear about something that’s free, my expectations are never super high, but I was really impressed,” said Windsor Terrace mom Elizabeth Evangelista, who brought kids James, 6, Leo, 3, and Beatrice, 3. “It was like going to a really awesome science museum in your neighborhood.”

The 15th Street armory was packed to the gills with young science nuts, as kids ages 10 and under were charmed by exhibitions that stretched minds big and small, according to Evangelista.

“My six year old and I were fascinated by the brain exhibit.” she said. “I thought that small brains meant you were small brained, but apparently that’s not the case.”

Kids were also treated to science-themed activities, including a tug-of-war on wheels, and a dominos game that proved even small actions can have massive results, said the Windsor Terrace mom.

“They had a dominos thing, which started out small, but the largest domino was like six feet tall, so the idea is the kids would line up and push the small domino and see how even a little tiny domino can make all of them fall,” said Evangelista.

Thanks to the low-low admission price, the armory quickly filled up to the point where participating in some activities required waiting in line, But even if they didn’t get a hands-on experience, it was all worth it to see the look of wonder on the tykes’ faces.

“It was the excitement of seeing all the kids so into it,” said Prospect Height mom Diane Kredensor, who brought her daughter Heidi and son Charley to the event. “If I learned anything big picture, it was, ‘Wow kids are really into this.’ ”
