Singer: ‘Civilian of the Month’

Longtime civic activist Pat Singer (third from right) received the “Civilian of the Month” honors at the recent 60th Precinct community Council meeting.

“I was surprised and delighted with that,” said Singer, the founder and executive director of the Brighton Neighborhood Association (BNA) for the past 32 years.

“My life has been a roller−coaster ride, but this is a high point and a nice pleasant moment,” she added.

Singer recalled how she started with a quality−of−life protest that drew 1,000 people in Brighton Beach. Following the protest, then−Assemblymember and current U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer gave her the seed money to begin working full time for the BNA,
