Park Slopers parked their lawn chairs in the middle of Fifth Avenue on July 18 during the first of the neighborhood’s Summer Stroll block parties this year, and attendees said they loved lounging on the temporarily traffic-free strip between 12th and 18th streets.
“We could sit down and relax and enjoy the breeze,” said Stephanie Herbert of Park Slope, who brought her 5-year-old and 11-year-old daughters to the fair. “The girls were able to have fun and there was nothing to worry about.”
Herbert said her youngsters found plenty to do at the fresh-air fiesta, playing chess and scaling a rock-climbing wall.
“There were so many activities,” she said. “It was a nice way to get everybody out and participate.”
Another Sloper was thrilled to stumble across the party while handing out flyers for an upcoming charity event.
“It ended up being an evening of fun,” said Melissa Anceravige, who was spreading the word about fund-raising festival the 17th Street Cancer Crusade — which will take place on 17th Street between nearby Third and Fourth avenues on July 25 — with her son and his friends when the rock-climbing wall caught their eyes. “They had a ball.”
The next Summer Stroll will take place on July 25, and will feature a live performance of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” plus live music, vintage cars, and face-painting.
