Long Island University cut the ribbon on its brand-new, state-of-the-art facility with expanded programs on May 6, dedicating the renovated and modernized school to Harriet Rothkopf Heilbrunn.
The high-tech learning center prepares students for careers in healthcare and to meet the challenges in the community — and urban nursing — by offering modern, educational laboratories and classrooms with specialized simulation and clinical equipment that replicates various clinical settings, and offers students hands-on training in areas ranging from intensive care to pediatrics to emergency room practice.
The Heilbrunn family provided a mega grant in excess of $10 million buckeroos for the project. Harriet Rothkopf Heilbrunn, an LIU alumna from the Class of 1932, and her husband Robert were both dedicated philanthropists who passed the torch to their daughters, Helaine Lerner and Joan Rechnitz.
University president Dr. Kimberly Cline said, “the Heilbrunn family’s generosity has enabled LIU to reaffirm its status as a leader in nursing education, in one of the most significant healthcare environments in the nation.”
