Soul music legends
Roberta Flack and James Ingram will perform together on July
31 as part of the 24th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert
Series at Wingate Field.
The free performance will be Flack’s third at the MLK series,
but Ingram will be making his first appearance ever at a Brooklyn
venue, said Brian Vines, spokesman for Borough President Marty
Markowitz.
"You can expect a night of classic soul with two of the
biggest and best names in music," Vines said. "It will
be very classic, grown-up soul music, with hits that have stood
the test of time."
Flack, who was born in Asheville, N.C. in 1937, is a notable
jazz, soul and folk performer who is perhaps best known for her
1974 single "Killing Me Softly With His Song." Ingram,
a self-taught soul musician, has performed with artists like
Ray Charles, Michael McDonald and Kenny Rogers, and won a Grammy
award in 1985 for his duet with McDonald on the hit "Yah
Mo B There."
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert Series presents "Classic
Soul Night: Roberta Flack and James Ingram" at Wingate Park
(Winthrop Street between Brooklyn and Kingston avenues in East
Flatbush) on Monday, July 31 at 7:30 pm. For more information
