Special delivery for the homebound

Homebound seniors won’t go hungry if Old Man Winter delays delivery of their meals %u2013 thanks to new emergency food program by Citymeals-on-Wheels.

Board members from the organization, which “raises private funds to ensure no homebound elderly New Yorker will ever go a day without food or human company,” rolled up their sleeves and worked a bustling assembly line at the Citymeals Warehouse, 307 Kent Avenue, packing up Emergency Food Packages (EFPs) to be transported to more than 17,000 clients through November.

Each 30-pound box contains 12 meals’ worth of food, including rice, canned vegetables and fish, in addition to oatmeal, cookies and hot and cold beverages.

“The boxes ensure that Citymeals recipients have enough food on hand in the event of winter blizzards, ice storms, blackouts and other emergencies,” said a spokesperson.
