A hootin’, hollerin’ huzzah to stage-struck eighth-graders Christopher Saad and Laura Downey from St. Anslem’s Catholic Academy for receiving Betty Kash Memorial scholarships.
The award, sponsored by the Narrows Community Theater, is given to students wishing to advance their study of theater and performance. Budding thespians Christopher and Laura, who won top place for their illuminating essays about their experiences in theater and the love of grease paint, fit the bill, having appeared in numerous shows and expressing an interest in continuing to hone their talents.
Christopher is headed to the High School of Telecommunication Arts and Technology in the fall, and Laura will attend Fontbonne Hall Academy.
Dawn Berry Hansen, chairwoman and board member of the Betty Kash Scholarship committee, and Margaret McMahon, president of the Narrows Community Theater, presented the scholarships at a ceremony on June 4.
“Betty loved performing and directing, working with children and sharing her talents and love of theater with them,” said McMahon of the award’s namesake. “This scholarship is one way to let her work continue.”
Standing O is waiting in the wings to give a shout-out for the Tonys, Emmys, Oscars, and Grammys these talented teens will surely win.
