That’s right, Standing O gave a shout-out to borough daughter Lisann Valentine only two short years ago for her “in-front” of the camera performance because we know talent when we see it. Lisann is now back “behind-the-camera” and is making her directorial debut with her film “Our Quiet Night.”
Her goal is to tell stories that can impact lives.
“I want to let my audience know about the struggles and strength of women, especially when it comes to family,” she told Standing O. “The first example of that strength came from my mother and that’s what sparked the idea for this film.”
Lisann sets her story in Brooklyn during the holidays, but it’s so much more than that, she claims.
“It’s about faith and love,” she said.
“Our Quiet Night” will be shown on Feb. 15, the day after the holiday of love, with six other short films, as part of the sophomore launch of Filmomaniac at Subject L.E.S. Showtime is 7 pm.
When Standing O first met Lisann in October of 2012 she said, “My goal is to be the best example of what women — specifically Latinas — are capable of.” She is certainly living up to that goal.
Admission is free so take that special someone over the bridge, and go celebrate some love and faith.

It’s that time again. Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz (D–Sheepshead Bay) is inviting all students in grades three through 12 who either live in or go to school in the 45th Assembly District to participate in the 2015 Holocaust Memorial Creative Arts Contest.
Essays should be 500 words maximum. Artwork can be any medium or multimedia. Performance DVDs can be interpretive dance, theatrical performance and-or song. Written class-group projects should be presented in book form. For class-group projects, please provide a complete class list with your school’s name and class number, including each student’s name, address, and phone number. Projects not picked up after the ceremony become the property of the contest sponsors. All entries must be received at the assemblyman’s office by March 13.

Assemblymember William Colton (D–Gravesend) will be providing assistance to community members in determining eligibility and completing the Form NYC 208 (the New York City Enhanced Real Property Tax Credit for Homeowners and Renters). Qualified individuals can pick up the form at his office and submit it individually. Staff can provide language assistance in Russian and Chinese.

A warm welcome to another borough daughter, Meghan Pope, who is the newest member of the New York City Leadership Board of the American Lung Association of the Northeast.
Meghan is the founder and president of OPAL Advising, a full-service consultancy for small and mid-size businesses.
Her grandmother died from a smoking-related-illness and suffered from emphysema she explained, and getting involved was a natural progression for her.
“I knew I wanted to get involved with a non-profit organization dedicated to improving public health,” she said. “Given my strategic background and my personal background it quickly became clear that the Lung Association’s leadership board was the right opportunity.”
Association bigs think she’s a good fit, too.
“We are honored to have Meghan Pope join us,” said Jeff Seyler, president chief executive officer.
Standing O wishes Meghan good luck in her appointment.
